Every person, at one time or another, has been urged to move to a new place. Some people move to the next town, some move abroad, and some move to the other side of the globe. In this process we always miss the old place, we become homesick. We usually take a small piece of home with us – the watch we keep on the bedside table, or the picture in the nice frame, or a small piece of china. We take something to remind us of that we have left behind. That is the reason why we have always envied the snail, that little creature which carries its house on its back. Everyone has heard the kids’ stories about it. Snail’s house is called “shell”, while the human one is called “home”.
And what if we could take with us our house? This possibility is explored in the project.
The subject of the competition is the design of a prefabricated living unit for housing, transportable on wheel vehicle or by air, for temporary or permanent residence. Dimensions of the units are related to standard dimensions of containers for commercial transportation that automatically comply with transportability problems and do not require special vehicles.
